Immigration Practice

I have a longstanding commitment to the rights of individuals seeking asylum, entry and settlement in the United Kingdom.  I have particular expertise across the following fields of personal immigration law:

  • Asylum and human rights;
  • Deportation;
  • Detention, bail and habeas corpus;
  • Entry clearance (spouses, students, dependant relatives, working holidaymakers etc.);
  • EC free movement law;
  • Dublin II Convention removals;
  • Settlement and return to the UK;
  • Naturalisation;
  • Nationality;
  • Statelessness;
  • Work permits;
  • Eastern European and Turkish Association Agreements;
  • Highly Skilled Migrant Programme.

I regularly represent appellants before the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, the Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal.   I also have experience of litigation before the European Court of Human Rights.

I am a serving independent Immigration Funding Review Adjudicator.  In this quasi-judicial post I determine appeals by foreign nationals against decisions of the Legal Services Commission to refuse to grant legal aid.
